CASE STUDY 02 · INDUSTRY CLOUD · 2020–2023
Making Microsoft Industry Cloud tangible and repeatable
How I led the design and delivery system that translated complex industry workflows into integrated proofs of concept, reusable solutions, and field-ready customer narratives.
OUTCOME
Approximately 10–15 reusable solutions · Industry Solutions Collection in four weeks · Strategic contract win · Multi-industry portfolio
Scope
PORTFOLIO MAP · RETAIL · HEALTHCARE · FINANCIAL SERVICES · SUSTAINABILITY · MANUFACTURING
Year

CUSTOMER WORKFLOW → LIVE CODE → REFERENCE ARCHITECTURE → DATA → DEMONSTRATION
THE CHALLENGE
Industry Cloud strategy was powerful—but customers needed to see it work.
Microsoft’s Industry Cloud opportunity crossed products, data, workflows, and organizational boundaries. The value could not be communicated through a feature list. Sellers and customers needed integrated, credible proofs that connected working code and reference architectures to a recognizable industry scenario. Most engagements were bespoke. The business needed a reusable model that could make industry value tangible quickly, preserve technical truth, and equip global field teams to tell and demonstrate a coherent story.

MY MANDATE
Create the first solution model, then scale it across industries.
DECISION
I led the design direction, strategy, quality, and delivery for an Industry Cloud solution portfolio that grew to approximately 10–15 reusable assets across industries and business functions. The portfolio spanned Retail, Healthcare, Financial Services, Sustainability, Manufacturing, and other priority domains.
SYSTEM
The work required orchestration across designers, engineers, product managers, industry experts, product teams, marketing, and field organizations. I translated complex business workflows into integrated proofs of concept combining code, reference architectures, data, demonstrations, and end-to-end customer scenarios.
MOMENTUM
Design direction, strategy, quality, and delivery across a multi-industry portfolio.
OPERATING MOVES
MOVE 01 — Design around an industry outcome, not a product inventory. I established a model in which each solution began with a meaningful customer workflow and connected it to the technical architecture and proof required to make the value credible. The resulting assets gave sellers and engineering teams a shared narrative: what problem we are solving, how Microsoft’s platform works together, and what a customer could implement next. For Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare, I led design across three integrated scenarios using Azure FHIR, IoT, and Dynamics 365. The work combined live code, reference architecture, data visualization, analytics, and end-to-end customer experiences into an evergreen proof model.
MOVE 02 — Make quality and reuse part of the operating model. I led designers and engineers to create the first Industry Solutions Collection in four weeks: a curated publication surface and self-service quality workflow for presentation materials, prototypes, sample data, tools, and documentation. We published the first two industry solutions to prove the end-to-end recruiting, review, curation, and release process, then handed the model to the governance team with recommendations for the next version. This turned solution publishing from an ad hoc event into a repeatable business capability.
MOVE 03 — Move from a successful pattern to a portfolio. I led two foundational solutions for Microsoft Cloud for Retail, a Sustainability solution delivered in four weeks, and portfolio work spanning Healthcare, Financial Services, Manufacturing, and other business functions. For a Manufacturing Track and Trace initiative, I drove clarity through ambiguity and led the narrative, experience, and proof-of-concept demonstration in two weeks. The result was adopted by the service line for a strategic customer pitch. Across the portfolio, I established roadmaps, milestones, quality standards, storytelling patterns, and alignment rhythms that helped teams deliver at speed without losing technical or customer coherence.
MOVE 04 — Use design to change the commercial conversation. In a competitive pursuit for a digital lender, I led design workshops, synthesized research into three focus areas, mapped six stages of the customer experience, and aligned the customer’s needs with Microsoft’s portfolio. The team shifted the conversation from technology features to customer and product value and won the contract against Salesforce. For a global quick-service restaurant, I led design and UX across an 8–10-week Digital Kitchen engagement covering grill, back-of-house preparation, and frontline workflows. I set design principles, directed research, guided daily build reviews, and partnered with engineering, art, and product to deliver polished proofs of concept. The work advanced toward planning a real-world test kitchen for longer-term validation.
OUTCOMES
A repeatable system for making Industry Cloud real.
ORGANIZATION
Approximately 10–15 reusable solutions across industries and business functions · Industry Solutions Collection designed and delivered in four weeks
LEADERSHIP
First two industry solutions published to validate the end-to-end model · Sustainability solution delivered in four weeks
EXPERIENCE
Manufacturing narrative and proof of concept delivered in two weeks for a strategic customer pitch · Competitive digital-lender engagement resulted in a contract win · Global restaurant engagement advanced toward a real-world test kitchen
CLOSING
The portfolio scaled because the work connected product truth, customer truth, and field execution. This case shows my ability to move between strategy and delivery while leading through influence: define a new product model, make it real with customers, then create the standards and operating system that allow multiple teams and industries to use it.
