CASE STUDY 03 · FRONTIER STRATEGY · 2016–2020
Turning frontier technology into investment-ready platform strategy
How I helped shape Reality-as-a-Service and Mixed Reality at Work, translating uncertain signals into executive-ready strategy, product roadmaps, and an invention pipeline.

REALITY-AS-A-SERVICE PLATFORM MODELPeople · Objects · Environments · Workflows · Physical-world dataFrom weak signals to shared platform direction
The leadership moment
The technology was arriving before the product category was clear.
Mixed reality, spatial intelligence, connected environments, and intelligent-edge devices created a broad field of possibility—but not yet a coherent investment thesis. Leadership needed a model connecting human behavior, technical capability, product strategy, and business value to real roadmap decisions.
STRATEGY PRIMER → SCENARIO INVENTORY → EXECUTIVE DECISIONS → 2–5-YEAR ROADMAPS
What I led
Make an emerging system legible to product teams and executives.
SYSTEM
Built the Reality-as-a-Service model connecting people, objects, environments, workflows, and physical-world data.
ALIGNMENT
Mapped scenarios across Remote Assist, Guides, Layout, Sales Assist, Perception, Context Studio, and Business Applications to surface shared platform opportunities.
DECISION
Turned research into a Strategy Primer, scenario videos, interface concepts, and demonstrations reviewed by senior executives, including Bill Gates.
Work in motion
RAAS STRATEGY PRIMERPeople · environments · objects · applications
The shared platform model gave product and engineering teams a common vocabulary for customer problems, technical enablers, and differentiated opportunities.
CROSS-PLATFORM SCENARIO MAPRemote Assist · Guides · Layout · Perception · Context Studio
The scenario inventory surfaced integration opportunities across Mixed Reality and Business Applications, creating a stronger portfolio-level ‘better together’ story.
Impact
From speculative technology to a shared direction for action.
ROADMAP
Influenced Microsoft’s 2–5-year Mixed Reality at Work vision and product roadmaps.
EXECUTIVE ALIGNMENT
Presented decision-ready strategy to senior executives, including Bill Gates, and connected multiple platform teams around shared scenarios.
INVENTION & TEAM FORMATION
Helped shape a new Mixed Reality Audio team charter; generated nine audio patent filings and contributed to four spatial-intelligence inventions approved for filing.
REFLECTION
My 0-to-scale leadership pattern began here: synthesize weak signals, create a clear product point of view, align disciplines around a shared system, and convert exploration into decisions, teams, and reusable capability.
